This model was inspired by a vintage mouthpiece made by Domenick Calicchio for John Madrid. Domenick Calicchio is revered as one of the most gifted mouthpiece craftsmen ever. Each of his mouthpieces was a work of art created by hand with exacting precision. Johnny Madrid is generally recognized in the trumpet world as legendary for his ease and musicality when playing in the extreme upper register. Many who played alongside Johnny Madrid give equal tribute to his ability to lead the section. Under his guidance articulation, phrasing, style and sound were brought to perfection. Legends Brass was able to scan a vintage two-piece Calicchio Johnny Madrid mouthpiece, which was the starting point for the Legends JM. The rim is medium round with a soft bite. The bowl shaped cup is between a C and D depth, which is medium to medium shallow. This combination keeps the embouchure comfortable on those screaming solo and lead high notes. The backbore is a Legends Vegas, which is tight enough to support upper register playing, but still has plenty of core for beautiful musicality in the middle register.
