This mouthpiece is based on a piece actually played by the legendary Maynard Ferguson. I received the original piece from Alan Wise, who played with Maynard Ferguson for many years (see pictures of comparison and nice letter from Alan Wise). The rim just gradually melts into the cup, making it incredibly comfortable. The cup is medium shallow.  The entrance to the throat is open (#22). This is a CONVEX V-Cup from rim to throat, so it yields plenty of air flow for a nice big sound. This mouthpiece is kept in stock in the Legends JT blank, which is a perfect balance: enough mass to enhance slotting with a big core, but not so much mass that the sound won't sizzle! Although this design is inspired by a piece played by the legendary Maynard Ferguson, this is not an exact copy! This piece has the enhanced Legends throat cylinder length, and the Legends S backbore. This piece can be used for legit or lead playing. Slotting is excellent. For those familiar with the Legends JT-MF , this piece is similar, but has a smaller inside diameter (.590 as opposed to the JT- MF.593); and a more open throat (#22, as opposed to the JT - MF #27).
